Honda Civic Hybrid. Honda introduced the first gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle to the American market in 1999, although the two-seat Honda Insight captured few buyers. But soon after that step, Honda took the hybrid vehicle concept to primetime in its hot-selling Civic line. Now a second-generation Honda Civic Hybrid has arrived, and it has improved upon its predecessor in every way possible. It looks better, rides better and offers much better integration between gasoline and electric propulsion. At the same time it is both more powerful and more efficient than the previous model and offers a feel much closer to its key rival, the Toyota Prius.
Welcome to our comprehensive Kelley Blue Book review of the Honda Civic Hybrid.
The Civic Hybrid is now capable of running on electric power only, but the most significant enhancements are in ride, handling, styling and comfort -- improvements that have benefited the entire Civic lineup. For more new car reviews, interviews and automotive news visit http://www.kbb.com today.

At 4:28, the narrator talks about an "electric only mode in which the vehicle will run on battery power alone in certain low-speed cruising situations." I've owned this car for for over two years and have never experienced that. Is that a feature one has to enable? Or is it something that automatically kicks in? I've never run out of gas, but I always wondered if the batteries would kick in to get me to a gas station if that were to happen. Do I have to have the cruise-control enabled?
I've been able to do so in a 2003 Honda Civic Hybrid... so I'd assume that it'd be more than possible with this new model. It's got a 50 liter tank, and 5 l/100 km is entirely doable on a regular basis. I've gotten as low as 4.2 l/100 km with my 2003.
