Running barefoot is more effective on solid earth. Concrete and asphalt are quite hard and don't absorb as much impact as the earth.

@jolteon43 I might be fuckin stupid then, because I do sometimes take off my shoes to run barefoot for a few miles. It's weird though because I don't run with my eyes closed (do you?). I'm a "barefoot runner", but only when I run without my shoes on. I do think however that a barefoot running "cult" is a little too fundamentalist for my taste. So are the defenders of arch support and pillowy clown shoes. Cool off people!

And by the way, unless the whole road is paved with glass shards and dog shit you will not step on it unless you are blind. Eyes are pretty useful. Are you telling me that when you wear your pillowy cushions, you step on shit and glass all the time?

This whole debate is stupid. What is the big deal? You don't like shoes, run without. You like shoes run with them. You like both? Knock yourself out and alternate. Why be so fundamentalist about everything?
