Endtroducing..... is the debut studio album by hip hop artist DJ Shadow. It was first released on November 19, 1996 by Mo' Wax Records, and later reissued on June 7, 2005 by Island Records. It is noted by Guinness World Records for being one of the first instrumental albums created entirely from samples of other records.

Endtroducing..... is structured completely out of sampled elements, including hip hop, jazz, funk, psychedelia, old television shows, interviews and percussion tracks. The entirety of the album was composed on an MPC60, a machine which Shadow would later pass on to Chief Xcel. The album has been cited in Guinness World Records as being the first album created entirely from sampled sources,[citation needed] although the liner notes of the outtakes album Excessive Ephemera note that vocals were contributed in the studio by Lyrics Born and Gift of Gab.
In 2005 DJ Shadow released a "Deluxe Edition" of the album with a second disc containing demos, alternate versions of original tracks, tracks exclusive to CD singles, and a vintage live set recorded on October 30, 1997.
The album's cover depicts Solesides members Chief Xcel (left) and Lyrics Born (right) in Records, a record store at 710 K Street in Sacramento, California.[1] The K Street location of Records closed in December 2006, and has since relocated to the former Tower Video location at the corner of Broadway and South Land Park Drive.
14 years after the initial release, Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt found new life when it was featured in the 2010 video game Splinter Cell: Conviction.

"Stem" is a song by DJ Shadow from his 1996 debut album Endtroducing......
The song reached #9 on the Ireland singles chart, DJ Shadow's only ever top 10 hit. The album Endtroducing..... is listed in the Guinness World Records as being the first ever album of entirely sampled content.
The album version of the song combines "Stem" with "Long Stem" and "Transmission 2".

Like all other tracks on the album, "Stem"/"Long Stem"/"Transmission 2" makes heavy use of sampling. Below are among the samples used for the track:
The first sample used in the track is sampled from the beginning of the 1969 song "Love Suite" by British progressive rock band Nirvana.
The "...uicide...uicide..." vocal sample is taken from "Moshitup" by American hip-hop artist Just-Ice featuring fellow American hip-hop artist KRS-One.
The high-pitched string samples are sampled from "Variazione III" by Italian psychedelic rock band Osanna.
The recurring guitar and violin parts are sampled from "Linde Manor" by American singer-songwriter Dennis Linde.
The organ sample that starts the "Long Stem" is taken from "Tears" by German musician Giorgio Moroder; the same sample is used on another track on Endtroducing...., "Organ Donor".
The "I could just lay right down..." vocal sample is taken from "Blues So Bad" by American funk/soul group The Mystic Number National Bank.
The "parking tickets" dialogue from that appears midway in the song is sampled from "Freedom" by American comedian Murray Roman.
The synths that appear in the "Long Stem" section of the song are sampled from "Oleo Strut" by American electronic group Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Company.
The "Transmission 3" section starts with a piano sample of "The Madness Subsides" by Finnish musician Pekka Pohjola; the same sample is used on another track on Endtroducing...., "Midnight in a Perfect World".
The final sample, "This is not a dream..." is sampled dialogue from the 1987 film Prince of Darkness.
