A declared international heritage site, the Cocos Islands of Costa Rica is my favorite place to dive for large pelagic marine life. Soon to be going there for the 12th time, the Cocos are prey to Costa Rica's own lack of attention and support in terms of protecting the area from long liners and shark finning ships. Diving the Cocos is like being in an overstocked aquarium. Do you look left or right, down below or above. If any place deserves protection, the Cocos do.

  • Cocos Islands should be fully protected from fishing of all forms and just as importantly it should be policed with massive penalties to those that ignore the laws.
