  • Connee could sing in 1925. And she could still swing it in 1962. Enough said.

  • Good imitation of a black blues singer. A waste of her voice to sing in the rockabilly style, but she pulls it off well. My sister-in-law is sixty and still has a very clear, Judy Collins style, voice, 55 isn't that amazingly old for a singer (unless they smoke like Joni Mitchell).

  • The culture was going through a transition in the 50s. We still had many older singers and musicians playing dance music for teenagers. This soon changed in the mid 50's with the movie "Rock Around The Clock." The youth culture was finding there own music and eventually their was a transition to teen idols and singers like Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello from the Mickey Mouse Club and from American Bandstand. Connee was on the last hurrah for the big band singers. She could really sing!

  • This is the perfect contrast, but I almost didn't believe that the omega recording was even her voice. So different. At first, the only place where I could really pick up on "her" voice was at 4:01. But I see that's definitely Connee now. Wonderful rockabilly rhythm. A million thank yous for sharing this.

The first song, "Cryin' Blues" was recorded when she was 18. Amazing.
