Larry Bird(December 7, 1956) is a retired American NBA basketball player, widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, and one of the best clutch performers in the history of sports.[1] Drafted into the NBA sixth overall by the Boston Celtics in 1978, Bird played small forward and power forward for thirteen seasons, teaming with legendary center Robert Parish and forward Kevin McHale. Due to back problems, he retired as a player from the NBA in 1992. Bird was voted to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1996 and inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998.

Larry Bird was a versatile wing man who played the power forward and small forward positions. He is considered as one of the greatest wing players of all time, to which his twelve All-Star team nominations is a testament. The versatile, sharpshooting Bird made his name stepping up his performance in critical situations, and is credited with a long list of dominating games, buzzer beaters and clutch defensive plays. He won two NBA Finals MVP and three regular-season MVP awards, something only five other players in the history of the NBA have accomplished.

Bird possessed an uncanny and unparalleled ability to anticipate and react to the strategies of his opponents. His talent for recognizing the moves of opponents and teammates prompted his first coach with the Celtics, Bill Fitch, to nickname him "Kodak", because he seemed to formulate mental pictures of every play that took place on the court.

Bird scored 24.3 points per game in his career on a high .496 field goal average, a stellar .886 free throw average (9th best all-time) and nearly 40% percentage on 3-point shots. Bird was also a good rebounder (10.0 rebound career average) and an excellent playmaker (6.3 assist career average). His multidimensional game made him a consistent triple-double threat; Bird currently ranks fifth all-time in triple-doubles with 59, not including the 10 he recorded in the playoffs. Bird's lifetime player efficiency rating (PER) is 23.5, 16th all-time, a further testament to his all around game.

  • I am 40 and a girl but I loved the Celtics and Larry Bird. There will never be an all around team player like him. He shot his baskets, but he also could pass without looking and his teammates learned quick to be on the outlook for anything with that. He rebounded, he recovered loose balls, he blocked shots. He had many triple double games. I even would stay up to 3am watching the games on the westcoast on satellite.

  • @belldonna81 Okay "elder" I wont tell you anything that you wont listen to anymore like how your an old 40 year old woman and how your turning into a granny soon.

  • @Robinqq11

today's children have no respect for their "elders." Im not an old woman either. And how did this post about Larry Bird turn into a debate on my age? Dont worry bout calling me anything-I ain't listening anymore.

  • @belldonna81 Ok how bout old woman? Im sure i cant call you a middle aged woman(30+) or a young(20+) woman. So how does old woman sound?

  • @Robinqq11

Get out of the caveman/cavewoman days. Being over 40 doesnt make one a granny and I was a girl when I watched him play-and I am now a woman and still a girl. It's a figure of speech. I ain't nobodys Mama and I sure as hell ain't nobodys Granny!

  • @belldonna81 No offence but if your 40 your not a "girl" your a granny.

  • what song is this? great video too man

  • PERFECTION...truly an artist...

  • From 1979 - 1985 Larry Bird was the greatest all - around player that ever lived. During these years Larry won 3 MVPs and the Celtics won 3 NBA titles. During these years Larry was healthy and there was no question who was the greatest player in the game. After this period Larry began suffering from chronic injuries, mainly back and achilles/foot problems. He was still a great player and an all-star but never quite the same again.

  • @matetak ur xactly right bro
