While watching a very long slow CSX Q439 in Hyattsville we got a surprise at the end of the train - an actual CABOOSE!. This and the tank cars in front of it are part of some kind of SAFETY Train.

  • I saw a couple of cabooses coupled together at the Ensel CSX yard in Lansing Michigan last year. Both pretty

    rusted looking.

  • Yeah I saw a string of about 15 in Jacksonville from the auto train a couple years ago and they looked like they were just rusting away.

  • That caboose look like it only comes out on warm sunny days!

  • @railroadlover OK, then put fred on the back of the caboose thats all..NOw everybody will be happy. and safer'

  • @jimmydcap Even if they do bring back Caooses tehy still will need EOTs

  • man u should've recorded the whole Q439! but still Q439 has quite sum surprises in it tho!

  • this was MY idea when FRED/EOT device 1st came out!

  • I would have thought the caboose would be on the back ,either because the train was carrying Dangerous goods or there was some sort of gate or barrier to close at which ever area the train had to pass through(To save a long walk for the trainman who had to close the gate. The crew on the engine doing the unlocking/opening.The man in the caboose closing the gates after the train had passed through).Or both reasons

  • i saw one on the back of a ns the other day it was a southern caboose

  • That one looks like it is in pretty good shape.

  • Saw one in kansas city a Burlington Northern on the end of a switch engine going down the tracks about a year ago!
