new drum kit - 4 mic recording

please note: i am a lousy drummer. i made this video to show the kit and the recording technique not highlight 'mad skillz'. thanks!

this is a video of me playing my new drum kit it's a pacific cx maple set - 22" kick 10", 12" & 14" toms.

i have the drums tuned pretty low, the heads are evans EC1s on the toms, remo powerstroke 3 coated on the snare and an evans EMAD on the bass. eventually i'll get a powerstroke 3 coated for the bass, but the EMAD is cool for now.

the audio for this clip was recorded into cubase using 4 microphones: a pair of cascade fat head 2 mics for the overheads, an AT PRO25 three feet out in front of the kick (not visible in the video) and an SM57 on the snare.

the mics were going through the preamps in my 25 year old studiomaster console then out to an echo audiofire12 via the insert points.

the audio tracks are minimally processed with just a smidge of compression to help them pop. there's no reverb or eq on the tracks.

the audio was mixed down to MP3 format and i did my best to line it up with my lousy playing.
