At 9am on 20th May 2007 the four 300ft cooling towers of Chapelcross Nuclear Powerstation were demolished. The cooling towers were one of the most prominent landmarks on the Solway Coast.
Chapelcross, located within four miles of the Solway Estuary, Scotland, was a Magnox-type four-reactor station with eight 30 MW turbines. At full power when operational, the station produced enough electricity to supply every home in South West Scotland, the Borders and Cumbria. Chapelcross Reactor 1 was brought on-line for electricity generation on 25th February 1959 with all four reactors fully operational within 15 months, and had been the mainstay of electricity production in SW Scotland ever since. Sweet production. Towers looked like they were made of cardboard. I guess that's my perspective compared to Trojan's implosion in Oregon in May, 2006. Four is better than one. How tall were those towers?

Thanks. The towers were nearly 300 feet high and weighed 6000 tonnes each.

Funny how they fold like socks.
They should have a waterbomber fly in and dump it's load after the fourth explosion to clear the dust.
