This is a video of the left ear. It is narrated, and shows the ear canal, ear drum (tympanic membrane), the three ear bones (malleus, incus, and stapes), behind the ear drum. It also show movement of the ear drum.

  • Since sound travels as pressure waves to change the ear drum position, it does move. However, when we look in the ear, we occlude the ear canal, blocking any sound or pressure waves from reaching the ear drum. So if we had a camera that did not block the ear cana,l you could see it move with sound; however, that technology does not exist. Good question.

  • I wish I could see the scarring of my ear drums....because I had tubes put in when I was much younger. I just wanna see! =)
