From the BETA VHS archives:

Halloween Eve 1981 on WNET 13 in New York and New Jersey saw an all night horror marathon of all the classics. I've included the opening of "Dracula" for the memorable tones of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake".

  • Great video! I remember when Cinema 13 had all of those old Universal movies on that year with Kevin Conway. The only thing that I don't recall is seeing them all on the same night. I thought a single movie would be shown each week (was Cinema 13 on Friday nights?)

It was so great seeing them uncut and interrupted at that time, while Conway's asides were very welcome.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • On one of my other videos with Kevin Conway, the voice over person says it's on Saturday Nights at 10 but they could've changed it around. Thank you very much for your comments :)

  • What's that show in the beginning?

  • I believe it was "The Commanders", a BBC produced show.

  • What is the opening track of classical music on this? i wanna tape these songs but i don't have the names of these songs...let me know. wow, 1981? The memories..i was born in 1973 and have been into monsters ever since i was a young lad. I am now 34 and am more into monsters. This is like Movie Macabre with Elvira

  • The opening track is from Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, forget the exact name of the piece.

  • I'm about to sound like an old man (heck...I'm only 37), but why, oh why, oh why don't TV stations do stuff like this anymore? Do people really want to watch infomercials?

  • This brings back so many memories. Saturday nights were awesome back then. You had monster movies on Channel 13 around 10/11 pm. And then on Channel 9 at 1 a.m., after wrestling, there was Fright Night. Another show that showed old horror flicks.

Oh take me back to those days!!!

  • Awesome, I was 3 when this was on.

  • OK, I"m 11 again!

  • Wow, how much more old school could you posibbly get then this?

Very nice job! Keep up the great work! Thanks for posting! A++++++++

Have a great night, a great day tommorrow, a great night tommorrow, a great weekend, a great month, a great winter, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! All the best in 2010 and beyond! Puerto Rican Love from New York City!

It's so amazing how Channel 13 (WNET or PBS) has evolved throughout the years! Funny how time flies as well.

  • wnet sucks so bad now; I don't know what happened to this station. Now it plays the same generic garbage that all the other stations play.

And then when it shows an older movie, it chooses the worst print possible. Last month it showed Charade and I swear to God they must've used an actual print from 1963 to play it!

  • why wont one tv station play these again?Lets have a Horror Night with classics,so we can all sit down with the family and get scared again. 180 channels and crap on,with 4 minutes of commercials inbetween,i usually fall asleep or forget what im watching . Totally sick of housewives, cooking, sell that house crap!

  • wow, this is great... i was a year old when this aired... wish it was like this now...thay don't do shit on tv for halloween any more... it's a drag.

  • Wow! Now that sounds like a terrific night's entertainment! :)

  • That's right. It was Saturdays. Thanks!
