Here is photo/video montage I made from my trip out to Tokashiki Island on the weekend of August 27-28, 2006. The island is 40 minutes south of Naha via ferry boat and is populated by approximately 775 villagers. It is well known for its snorkeling, whale watching (winter), and water activities. I was so caught up in the moment of this spectacular trip, I forgot to take out my camera to film the beaches. What we have here instead is a few shots of the ferry boat ride, the lush mountain side, and the incredible sunset I was lucky to capture. A must visit during the summer if you're ever in Okinawa. Please enjoy.

  • i miss okinawa so much

  • nazukashi!i was the first foreign english teacher to live on tokashiki, before they switched to JET programme & after US military occupation switched to seinen no ue. thanks for the flashbacks!i really miss the people the most, some of who have passed away.its a trip to see the bridges- they weren't complete.strange, not one picture of any locals. a part of my heart and best life memories are there at tokashiki, w/ kerama daiko, w/ kancho, picking sea snails at low tide; a place to chase sunsets

  • I spent a year on Tokashiki (1967) with the US Army. There were 2 HAWK missile sites located, at the highest point of the island. From what I can see, it looks like the barracks, orderly room, px building, library/theater, etc. are still standing, with a lot of other structures added.

We loved the villages of Tokashiki and Aharen, and would walk down the hill from the site, through the village of Tokashiki, and on to the deserted beachs, at every chance. Skin diving was a favorite activity.

  • I presently live on Tokashiki island and teach english. I am a little surprised at your choice of shots... you should have taken more from the lookouts. Where was aharen beach and the lighthouse beach.... and shots from the lookout above Tokashiku...the awesome log cabins etc... silly tourists :P

  • I miss Okinawa. I was there as a Marine from '91 to '93. I'm sure I'll go back to visit one of these days.
