Speaker of the National Assembly Kenneth Marende declined to rule on the legality or otherwise of President Mwai Kibaki's nomination of four constitutional office holders, in the country's justice system and the budget office. Marende, instead referred the matter to two relevant house committees to collect and collate views from all the stakeholders, and submit a report to the house on Thursday next week. But as Francis Gachuri reports, Marende was also categorical that the move would allow a window of opportunity for President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga to go back to the negotiating table and resolve the impasse.

What I hear Marende saying is that the august House must not continue disregarding the Constitution and the people of Kenya. The message is clear to the vuvezela Mps!

Marende has proven time and again he is upto the task whenever a divisive issue crops up.He is very much a safety valve like distinguished kenyan somalis(Mahmoud mohamed,Abdikadir hassan) who came to the rescue when kenya threatened itself with 82' coup and new constitution making.
