this operation was to be the largest and most costly of all time ... and is ... we lost 50000 of our boys on that beach alone half of them new they woulkd die from the begining and even more new they wouldnt see each other ever again ... imagine being in the "raft's" nowing you were floating to your death ....l they did this for our freedome if they hadnt germany would have cept london and japan... my grandfather was lucky enough to make it threw this horible place

@Salvus967 Well if anyone else made a difference in the Battle of Britain, it was the Polish. But after all the hard fighting the Brits had to face, almost all by themselves, against very heavy odds, they have been discredited by iganorant comments like "if it wasn't for us americans, you'd all be speaking german" when in reality its "if it wasnt for the bravery of the british, the nazis would have conquered europe and america would never have been able to budge them.

Britain can be thanked for the possibility of an invasion on the western front. USA was certainly integral for victory, but so was Britain. I think many Americans dont really realise the sacrifices Britain suffered in order to be victorious. Without the bravery of Britain's fighting men, no invasion of France could have happened. The movie 'Pearl Harbour' seems to claim Americans made the difference in the Battle of Britain, but this is not true. Britain fought all by themselves and won.

3 big reasons why Allied forces won this invation. 1: Hitler did`nt listen to Field Marshal Rommels plan,and prediction. #2: Field Marshal Rommel were in Germany to attend to his wife`s bday, during the invation. #3: Hitler did`nt allow the reserve Panzer division to move in Normandy
