Short hardware review of a 3rd party VGA box for the SEGA Dreamcast. One of the most useful peripherals you can get if you're into Dreamcast gaming. Most Dreamcast games support VGA and the quality you get from using this device is simply stunning (seriously!). I highly recommend getting one.

Thanks for watching!

  • can you use the VGA output for video and RCA white and red jacks for the sound? if not, how am i supposed to have VGA picture and surround sound?

  • @sillydillydokieo There's a 3.5mm stereo jack next to the VGA output ;)

  • Thanks for the review. Just purchased the same VGA box for my DC. Hopefully it won't disappoint.

  • @MindlessMiles You wont be disappointed ;-) . You might need to play around with your TV/monitor settings a little but when you get it set up correctly it's simply stunning. I still drool at the TV when I switch my DC on :P

  • I'm going to check into picking one of those up so I can keep one of my dreamcasts in my office . Also, that black Dreamcast is absolutely beautiful.

  • @wellesraphael they're definitely worth the money. The image quality you get through VGA is stunning. When you see games like DOA or Daytona 2001 being displayed on an HD screen you'll genuinely be like "holy s#it!, is that really my Dreamcast" lol. The colours really pop out at you.

  • is it necessary to have the s video cable?

  • That Dreamcast looking great.

  • If there's anything wrong with this box, it's the fact that it doesn't support rgb-scart, but the the inferior s-video instead. Which is, I guess, unterstandable, since it's basically made for a market where scart just isn't that common. Other than that, it really shows what the Dreamcast is capable of, and makes the PS2 look like a much older console by comparison.

  • My Tv and every LCD screen in my house don't seem to support this mode in VGA

  • @kst68dog

Dreamcast vga is 480p i believe. It would still look good but there might be pixel blurring caused by the LCD internal video scaler.

  • Can the Dreamcast support 720p using the VGA on a LCD TV?

  • I wanted to see it work and analyze the image quality in HDTV

  • @chaos3two Ninety percent of games do. There are a few that dont some of them you can trick the system into going into VGA. Put the box in TV mode load the game up just as it starts reading the disk flip it to VGA on the box.

  • @MizfitZer0 Not all games support VGA. You plug in both outputs and flip the switch to chose which you want to use.

  • @RepoMadam

Try Quake 3 Arena with VGA cable or Soul Calibur. Both simply stunning.
