Roger Linn performs "Air on a G String" by J.S. Bach on his prototype of the LinnStrument, a new musical instrument with 3D Note Expression, coming from Roger Linn Design.
@Rocketboy5 That is definitely true. Yeah, I guess after a while you'd gain some proficiency. There might be a bit more spacial reference with most of those instruments because there is an up and down and left and right. Could be a bit harder to be as accurate on something with very little reference. At least on those you get to pick a string, and you only have to pick out where on the string you are going to play.
I know initially, the surface was flat. Does it have ridges between notes at this point? If not, it seems you would be stuck watching your instrument unless is some other way to orient where your hands are.
Either way, it's definitely capable of some expressive music.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Even though this is a prototype, I would love if the final version wasn't too different from this. Just a simple metal rectangle for a desktop like that.
@jlb2 You need a midi interface. They have that all mapped out for Mac or Windows.

@v8media Does a violin have ridges to separate the notes? Does an upright bass? A cello? There are pros and cons to have notes discretely separated.

So this is basically a MIDI controller?!

what else needs to be connected to the computer, other than the LinnStrument to obtain these sounds?
