A clip of a description of working conditions in the US textile industry from 1953. No mentions of Brown Lung disease or Byssinosis, a chronic lung disease caused by exposures to airborne dusts from hemp, flax, and cotton processing. OSHA finally issued a regulation to control textile worker exposure in 1978. This was clipped from the 1953 industrial film The Greater Goal: Human Dividends from American Industry.

  • nice video.. very entertaining =)thanks for posting keep it up ..

  • @Allante715 Exactly! Lost my job of 16yr. in the hosiery. Americans want to earn $18-24 hr. But expect to buy $8 blue jeans, shirts $6 and a pair of shoes for $ 14. When I was a kid Sam Walton was all about helping Americans. I wonder what he would think about his creation now?

God I know your comment is old as shit. But what would be the point, without a tariff to protect the US textile industry then would have went under again. You CANNOT compete against a country that has no environmental, safety or labor regulations. Not to mention a country with substandard living conditiions.

Funny thing is Americans need only pay 5-10 dollars more for an American textile product. Unfortunately we continue to send our money out of this country!

  • We should just automate the entire process and give out clothing for free rather than subject people to mind-numbing repetitive work like this.

  • We have the same setups in Pakistan !! Pakistan produces all the leading brands of the World !!

  • jeah its sick

  • I can't wait 'till the slumping economy takes out a few of India's textile mills. Let them feel the pain of a closed factory and people out of jobs.

  • It's a shame that the U.S. Government didn't bail out the textile industry like they are doing to the Big 3. Everyone should write their U.S. Senators and Congressmen and let them know how disappointed they are in this.

  • sooooooo wats the difference between now and then, i dun notice a difference!

nar kidding its slighty better overthere now than wat it waz
