Patti Smith: the Bloomsbury Reading
Wednesday 26 January at 7.00 p.m.
Internationally acclaimed writer, performer and artist Patti Smith needs no introduction. Renowned globally since the 1970s for her visionary creativity and commitment across multiple media, she won the US National Book Award in December 2010 for Just Kids (Bloomsbury), her remarkable memoir of life, love and loss in the extraordinary creative ferment of Seventies New York. Long informed, in her own poetry or prose writing, by the great tradition of 'outsider' literature, from Blake to Burroughs and Rimbaud to Genet, Patti Smith is known for the intensity and richness of her readings. This evening's reading, drawn from Patti's extensive body of work, including Just Kids, and alongside those writers she has long loved and advocated, will be no exception.
