While the Mercury capsule could only support one astronaut on a limited earth orbital mission, the Apollo spacecraft was to be able to carry three astronauts on a circumlunar flight and perhaps even on a lunar landing
On April 12, 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to fly in space, reinforcing American fears about being left behind in a technological competition with the Soviet Union. At a meeting of the U.S. House Committee on Science and Astronautics held only one day after Gagarin's flight, many congressmen pledged their support for a crash program aimed at ensuring that America would catch up.

At its peak, the Apollo program employed 400,000 people and required the support of over 20,000 industrial firms and universities

@FantasticBob7000 Captain Obvious to the rescue. I did not want this to turn into a debate about the moon landing. Thats why i made it clear in the info section . Why don't think before you hit post? Everything that happened after the rockets is beyond the point. Everything that lead up to the events in question had alot of people working very hard to build these machines. Thats what the series is about appreciation of the many people who dedicate so much time and effort into it .

@yourboycal If that's your idea of Captain Obvious then you've got issues. You turned it into a hoax debate by bringing it up. The people who built the hardware didn't stop their work once the rockets were off the pad. Guys like Thomas J. Kelly and the rest participated in the flight tests (yes, in space) from positions in mission control.

It's damned ridiculous of you to applaud the hard work that went into what you suggest may have been nothing but a hoax. Think about it.

You see even people who deny the moon landings cannot deny the fact of all the work that went into building the rockets? How do we know this ? Well a simple tour to nasa centers will reveal this accomplisment . You just like to put all your eggs in one basket my good man . Nobody can deny the fact of all the work that wen into the missions thats what this video is for :D

@yourboycal Ok I hear ya. I just think the ridiculous hoax theory is given more credibility when serious people bring it up because uneducated people are vulnerable to disinformation. I understand you just fine. I'm just telling you that new proof won't make any difference because the hoaxers simply aren't about evidence and logic, they're about their own egos. My own theory is that they feel so threatened by their inability to understand how Apollo worked and so inferior to the many talented people who made it happen that they are compelled to deny that it even happened.
