We interviewed a few of the parents of children who attend our center. They talk about when they first learned their child has autism and how they manage daily life. There are many levels of functionality on the autism spectrum. Many of the kids in our school are on the low functioning end and need the special education and therapies we provide at Hear Our Voices.

  • in order to make people proud, I have to fit the requirements of a "poster child." Life shouldn't have to be that way. It's not guaranteed for ANYONE, let alone autistic children to grow up living the American Dream. The only "cure" that autistic children need is the ignorance of their parents, adults and peers and acceptacne for who they are. Not pitying them over things they can't do. Focus on what they CAN do.

  • Again, typical scary opening with children screaming with somber music, B&W imagery and pictures of children stereotyped as robots staring blankly into space. Do these parents ever realize the PAIN of their children when they talk about them like this? Or they don't care about the children and expect people to feel sorry about their self-centered lives? I'm sick of these parents saying that "my child should do this and that, they should get married and raise a family, etc." It feels like cont.
