Solaris rocks but pitching to UNIX windows users is a bit naive. Anyone with more than four neurons is already using Linux, Solaris or BSD. Which leaves the other 95% of the planet who are lucky to be able to find the power button on their laptop.

OpenSolaris is easy because it does not have drivers for your hardware and most don't work right once you install them. Not even drivers for a NIC. You have to go to another operating system and download load drivers to get a network connection and know UNIX well to install it. This is why OpenSolaris = fail at least with proprietary Solaris or with a Linux distro you at least get drivers to get out on the Internet & get everything else you need to get it up and running

Too bad Oracle discontinued OpenSolaris in favor of the proprietary Solaris (which is the same thing, but proprietary.) Thank the universe for OpenIndiana, even though it's name isn't as cool. =)

I think the gNewSense distro (based on Ubuntu) is probably even easier than Ubuntu and runs better on lower-end machines.

For f*** sakes, quit fighting over distros, people. No one cares which one YOU personally like better. If you use Ubuntu and someone else uses Mint or Fedora or anything else, it's a testament to the versatility and flexibility of the platform. Competing distros aren't the enemy, but acting like they are just might be.

Ubuntu does really good job at GUI. So far Ubuntu is the most easiest, simplest and most popular linux's distro.

@icfnord: I wish it wasn't true but every time I have to troubleshoot someone's Windows PC its always a major headache. I try to get people to switch to Ubuntu Linux and charge them for the installation as well as teaching them how to use it but they want to keep Windows despite the fact that they got a virus from opening up a "song" called Hannah_Montana.exe. Its maddening.
