A quick edit to show the differences in how long it takes for a Window machine to become ready to eurf the net, and the same thing on a Modern Amiga
PC is a 3Ghz AMD with 3Gb of memory running Windows 7, Amiga is a SAM440EP running at 600Mhz with 512K of memory, running OS4.1 update 2

  • I am an Amigan with my A4000 and its Mediator running OS3.9 but I also love Windows 7. Try taking some of the crap of the desktop and maybe the password off the bios then run a couple of the defrag programs. then maybe you can run a comparison plus strip out some of the start up stuff and then you can run a true test my Intel Machine is only an I5 running at 3.2gig but when she is loaded without the 3rd party bloat ware windows 7 loads in 60secs. May all Macs go the way of all crap down the loo

  • @cugar434 The HD was not fragged, the BIOS password adds all of 5 seconds to the overall boot time, there was not a lot in the startup. The point is I was comparing two systems that were set up to do the jobs that I wanted them to do, I had not stripped everything out of the WIn7 systyem, but had not done the same with the Amiga either, both fairly standard setups.

The Amiga currently boots up and I've checked my emails in approx one minute, the Win7 system just gets slower and slower !

  • Also note the the Amiga SAM is a 600Mhz machine with 512Mb of memory, the laptop is 2Ghz with 3Gb of memory. Roll on the X1000, gonna blow this laptop away !

Nice comparison, and good explanations, dude. Though I must say, with your GHz and 3 GB RAM you can do wonders with Linux. And not to mention cugar45's 3,2 GHz fire-dragon: slap Arch with KDE and all the bells and whistles you will never need on it, boot it in 30 seconds and say, Hell, yeah! :) But seriously, boot-up time is not a realistic indicator of what a system can actually do. Plus nowadays computers are so damn fast that we are not really able to use their full power.

  • LOL its the same argument I use to blow away Win XP and WIn7 users at work But the reason Win7 slows down is because of Lazy programmers and there half talents with the Amiga OS they have old old Hardware to work with so have to keep things tidy and quick plus your Win 7 Machine is loaded with Loads and loads of stuff look at the desktop Try a fresh install of Win7 with just the windows apps you will see a flying machine again.

Amigas will live forever but our hardware has to come down in price.

  • @xeoe well i used to be amiga fan for a looooong time :D i still love their os :D

  • My Winmachine is 8x4000MHz with SSD and does ist WAY faster than any Amiga could do. BUT Amigas rock, i have a A1200 and 2 A500 and i would never give them away. Only waiting for a new Amiga OS for x86 machines. This is the only way to get into business. The problem is that u have to find commercial developers. Apple was also Geekware, but now they´re well placed at the market. This was possible due innvoative Design and high Quality. U must make ppl want to HAVE this system.

  • Windo$e loads every hardware driver it thinks it might need, checks "digital rights", announces itself on the internet, loads in hacks to make the thing usable, eats up as much hardware as possible to satisfy their hardware partners IBM so people feel the need to upgrade, thrashes the virtual memory, scans the registry, loads APIs blah blah blah... Amiga loads OS. <- full stop. Libraries, datatypes and programs are loaded as needed and simultaneously. That's how I recall it, anyway.

  • 8 Winfags watched this!

  • very slow this Amiga. 600Mhz ? it have IDE hard drive ?

with a Sam460ex and Sata, you will spend 1/4 of this thime to you go surf. and with SSD like about 1 second plus your time to click the browser icon.

And, the ppl that not like this video, I believe win 7 user of course. hehehehehehhehhe
