While"When I Fall in Love" is most closely associated with Nat King Cole and the Lettermen, the first hit version was recorded by Doris Day on June 5, 1952 and released by Columbia Records reaching number 20 on the Billboard chart. The song was written by Victor Young and Edward Heyman for the 1952 film, One Minute to Zero. While the movie has been largely forgotten, the song has become a classic.

  • Such an amazingly 'pure' voice, with exquisite phrasing and control...her diction is eloquent also...wow...what an awesome list of attributes for a singer to possess ...and man oh man...did she ever put them all together to create such a phenomenally memorable voice...listening to her sing reminds meh of sitting somewhere stunningly beautiful (in nature) with just the sound of a trickling brook or stream to listen to...beautiful

  • @TheMrMarilyn

Everything you said is true, and in addition she was quite stunning.

  • When I fall in love It will be forever Or I'll never fall In love In a restless world like this is Love is ended before it's begun And too many moonlight kisses Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun When I give my heart It will be completely Or I'll never give My heart And the moment I can feel that You feel that way too Is when I fall in love with you And the moment I can feel that You feel that way too Is when I fall in love with you
  • This was the first VOCAL recording. But the original, as catman916, said was an instrumental theme for the movie One Minute To Zero, by Victor Young and His orchestra.

  • @catman916 Yes...she did have her moments of 'beauty' as well...but...that voice...man oh MAN could that girl sing!!And she made it sound effortless as well (which it certainly is NOT)!!Quite a woman Miss Doris was.is...quite a woman!!

  • This song is as old as me ( Indro Saksono / Indonesian- born in April 1952 ). The Poem is perfect - and so was the singer. I remember that in late 50's my parents sung these kind of songs - they learned them from cinemas and radio as well.

  • Doris Day could win today's singers like Ne-yo and Lady Gaga were she as young as they are now. She brings joy and happiness to all of us through her peerless

performances. Thanks for posting this clip.
