Is unemployment a leading economic indicator? What are they, anyway?

Who's lying to us: Barack Obama and Keith Olbermann or John Boehner and Glenn Beck? Today, the US Department of Labor releases their most recent CPS, or Current Population Survey, which provides the unemployment data the country uses as its most accurate. Be sure at least one side will spin the data so much it'll look like cotton candy before they're done; sometimes, BOTH sides do it.

What are the leading economic indicators? We talked about how "leading" means they change before the economy does, which should automatically make you suspect them. If there were some well-defined leading indicators, how is it we're not all rich? What's the leading indicator for the Red Sox winning the Series? Other than steroid use, I mean.

What's going on with our economy? It looks like were shifting to an unsustainable government-based economy. No ingenuity, no products, no brainpower. What makes it possible? A printing press, with cotton and fiber to make increasingly worthless green American dollars. Thats just plain scary.
