http://MPGomatic.com catches up with Dr. Mike North and the AMP=D '33 Ford Hot Rod at SEMA 2009 in Las Vegas. Built on a Factory Five roller, this beast plugs-in and pumps out 660 foot pounds of torque with a UQM motor and A123 Lithium batteries.

  • The car was very very impressive. The claims were a bit exaggerated, but the range was right-on. The costs were pretty high and the car ultimately was dissassembled due to liability concerns... a real shame!

  • @F5RTube - Thanks for the update! Did they land the TV series?

  • Awesome... the battery still clearly has a ways to go, but those specs are crazy. Any chance of a road test vid?

  • Fingers crossed for a road test video. Stay tooned ...

  • I love hot rods and I love the idea of an electric 1, this needs further exploration. Look up the guy who built a 600HP BMW electric car in Croatia. It's amazing.

  • one thing the v8 has that does not the beautiful sound of power running through its pipes another is the rumble of the engine as it goes

  • 4 stars Short Clip

  • That thing is amazing!

  • @johncartelli a GAS powered car wouldnt need 600 ft-lbs to be as fast as an electric car, because it would weight less

  • @TheToToo A gas engine w/ over 600 ft lbs of torque is probably getting 3-4 miles per gallon put in an average fuel tank of 18 gallons (16 x3.5) and you get 56 miles... maybe technology hasnt gotten to the point where a battery pack can last 400 miles yet. I am sure the build wasnt for , lets see how far we can go on a charge. the point was to build an electric high performance vehicle.

  • @johncartelli BUT it still couldnt go as far as a gasoline powered car with a full tank of gas

  • @ratrodmod all you would hear is tires burnin,,lol

  • @TheToTooTwo yeah but build one that burns zero fuel...you missed the point..now if it had a 5hp engine that drove a generator to run the electric mtr..to get further distances hmmmm

  • SO WHAT ..660 foot pounds, 0-60 in 3 sec, top speed of 120 mph, and rang of 100 miles ..

for one you can make all the power you want, but if you cant go as far as full tank of gas it is a waste ..

And I could build a DD gas power car that is faster and goes further
