Do you need the enhanced performance, scalability and reliability, or a workstation?

  • ie6 fail..

  • @iToasterman This video is 4 years old.

  • @StudioDell Wow a reply from a dell rep! :D oh btw. Don't advertise work stations of being powerful. Im still using a Dell Dimension non HT P4 as a server 24/7. its running smooth

  • @iToasterman Workstations are a just tools. Some software applications such as 3d graphics, CAD/CAM, video editing, scientific and medical visualization may require specific hardware configurations. They may benefit from workstation configurations that have been certified for those applications. Glad to hear that your Dimension is still running great.

  • @StudioDell my dimension can run those, il admit i don't like dell hardware.. because it tends to be.. bulky, but its almost indestructible.

  • @iToasterman Yes. Like I said they are just tools...just need to use what works for your needs and budget.

  • Nowadays, a i7 "desktop" can do the same things a "workstation" can do.

She mentions that a workstation has OpenGL graphics, but the last time I checked, all graphics cards support and use OpenGL, so im not sure where she's getting the idea that only workstations have it.

i7 machines can take on the same tasks that a Xeon can. We use i7's all the time, and they stay at 100% load for days rendering.

  • @StudioDell was gona say i thought i just say a case that i just tossed

  • How can a computer have innacurate graphics, and also, wow upgradable memory :D

Virtualisation is the way to go, just keep a fatass Poweredge in a controlled environment.

And dell, i am a happy customer of yours, with servers and desktops and laptops in my Usage history!

  • "Every workstation features OpenGL graphics..." Really? That's a shock! A regular desktop with a low profile graphics card features OpenGL too. Maybe the integrated ones do, too.

Bottom line: use a workstation if you are a server lord or an architect/game designer/etc. Use a desktop if you own a pawn shop or a drugstore. Or if you just want to play. ;)

  • wow, my custom built gaming rig can smoke any dell out even on today's standards...I have had nothing but issues with dell since i started building pc's over 10 years ago. If i wanted, i could learn auto cad and design different things like engines and stuff on my gaming rig and it wouldn't even break a sweat. I wish dell would actually build a good computer and not change the hard ware from industry standard. I have used dell in the past and every one died on me or just didnt work.

  • my friends dell laptop was overheating so he sent it in and went to use his disused dell 9150 in the meantime only to find out all usb's had stopped working....

  • How can they call a dual core processor "high end"? My laptop from 2007 has a quad core and it was mid range.

  • I love how these people downplaying workstations have NO idea what they're talking about at all :)

Workstation mainboards are built to server spec - desktop mainboards are not.

Workstation mainboards have a higher RAM cap (often 100+ gigs), and often offer multiple CPU slots geared towards server/corporate series (Xeon/Opteron). Also ECC RAM is a workstation standard, while I doubt a desktop user will ever encounter or bother with ECC.

  • Does this lady have any idea what shes talking about?

  • 0:31 WINDOWS FAIL :D

  • multiple memories? what's that? a two-byte memory?
