Genuine P+S EX1 kit now available. - This vid is not an approved or factory sanctioned marriage of the camera and Mini35 but a non-destructive hack using some pieces from a homebuilt 35mm adaptor.

The Mini35 is a JVC version and no battery was available to power the groundglass motor at time of the test.

These images should not be taken as representative of the performance of either the PMW-EX1 or the Mini35.

Capture was via the firewire route and the footage was converted in HDLink from 1080i to progressive so there will be some resolution loss which is not typical of the camera.

If you are in a hurry and cannot wait for the offical mount kit to come out for the EX1, if you feel compelled to go the route I have in this experiment, be mindful that the front element of the EX1 lens is very close to the rear plane of the filter mount.

Anything you mount in there which is not a flat pane of filter glass may clash against the centre of the front optical element or in the case of the 58mm Century dioptres I have used, the inner rim of the rear threaded shoulder will contact the glass if you do not take care.

When prototyping something like this to the EX1 or any other camera for that matter, cut a circle of paper, insert it into the space between the lenses to be combined, then gently screw the dioptre in. If it binds at all, do not perservere but tilt the whole assembly sideways in different directions. If the paper disk slips and rolls freely in the space between the lenses and does not simply pivot on a fixed point of contact on a high point between the two lenses, then it may be safe to continue screwing the dioptre in.
