Shopgirl is one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm partial to Steve Martin, so I've compiled all my favorite scenes with him and the lovely Claire Danes. This is the final scene of the film.

  • I cry EVERY. TIME.

  • @idksmf So do I!

  • Me too. I loved this "fuckin" movie and I am 59 years old!

I loved the nostalgia of the old Beverly Hills department store she worked in selling gloves, and the fact that she was a young artist living in the Silver Lake district.

  • @geezloueeze Great observation about nostalgia. A lot of Mirabelle's wardrobe is vintage-inspired. Even the Prada dress that Ray buys her has an old-fashioned, timeless quality about it.

  • @idksmf , YES ME TOO!! IT IS SO SAD AND ROMANTIC AT THE SAME TIME!

  • @shinediaz26 Very well put! :-)

  • @AmandaKayO i wouldn't say the book is better, i would say where the movie doesn't disclose somethings the book does...and Steve does a really great job at narrating the entire book....i would say the MOVIE is a compliment to the book!

  • I have a Ray and a Jeremy; my life story , but in the ending i decided to marry a Jeremy. I was tired of being a unrequited love.

  • I cry every time when I hear "I DID LOVE YOU" I hope my ex boyfriend apologysed for being so rude to me and admit that he loved me instead of being so cruel =(. I did love him...

  • @misslv80 me too.

  • Sigh. This movie holds so much meaning to me as I've been in Mirabelle's situation - sadly twice. Giving more than I should of in hopes of the possibilities, being told I was loved when it was too late.Strong life lessons learned.Shopgirl holds a direct line to my heart, speaks on so many levels about unrequited love.

  • I love this movie and the novella. I believe Ray say "by the way, I did love you" to validate the relationship, maybe more for him than Mirabelle, but I think for her to think it wasnt in vain, that there was something real there - no matter if it worked out or not. Still sad as hell though.

  • The romantic story of real life! A girl who finds her heart BEFORE it is too late. And a man who realizes his heart...AFTER it is too late. What I wouldn't give to hear those 3 words ..BEFORE it is too late. But I've got a Ray Porter
