To install RAM in a desktop computer, you must find out what kind of RAM your motherboard can use. To get the most out of your motherboard, get as much RAM you can fit into one slot. To find out the maximum RAM per slot, you divide the maximum supported RAM by the number of slots.
Next, you remove the case/covering so you can get inside your computer.
Next, touch a metal doorknob or something metal so your static electricity doesn't harm the computer components.
Next, put the RAM into the slots it fits in. This is safe because there are no other slots RAM can fit into besides the RAM slots.
Next, replace the case/covering.
Next, plug everything back up.
Next, turn on your system and right click computer and click properties. This will show you how much RAM you have.

  • hey dumb ass what was the trick for getting it off? that's what i want to know.

  • @hatsumomo360 I'M the dumbass?

  • Question from a IT College Student, My Desktop already has two 512 RAM Cards for 1 Gig Operation. Can I replace the two 512 with two 1 Gig RAM Cards and still have everything work properly with better RAM Space my instructor says the motherboard can no tolerate this idea. The new cards will fit does this mean it will work or not???

  • @ZAPPSOFT if your instructor says it can't handle it, it probably can't. if you google the serial number of the motherboard, you can find out the maximum RAM it can hold. once you find that out, divide that number by the number of RAM slots you have. that's how much RAM you can put into each slot. if there's enough space per slot, go for it. i'm guessing it's a max of 512 mB per slot so you probably can't upgrade. depending on what you do, it may be practical to get a new computer.

  • Why? are you touching your doornub?

  • @raymond100100 to release any static charge. a little bit of static shock to the components of your computer can render them useless. usually it doesn't but it can i definitely didn't want to take the chance of breaking my computer.
