  • UNITED MACEDONIA 2013

  • "Macedonia forever?" Really? Your nation changes it's borders and name every 40 years. More like "Macedonia for now."

  • "The region of Macedonia (in Greece) was named after a

Greek speaking tribe called the MAKEDNOI.

[Makednoi being a Greek word meaning 'the tall ones']"

NO, it is not "erroneous", all the latest archaeological

evidence confirms without doubt that the ancient

macedonians spoke a North-western Greek dialect,

This was a rough, broad dialect of Greek.

Under Philip, this rougher dialect of Greek

was then replaced with the more refined Attic

Greek. You should read the latest publications.

Greek inscriptions were also found in Thrace and Illyria, the Thracians even inscribed their coins and vessels in Greek, and we know that both the Illyrians and the Thracians were not Greeks who had distinct languages.

  • @HaggisMacfee

    >Evidence from phonology indicates that the ancient Macedonian language was distinct from ancient Greek and closer to the Thracian and Illyrian languages. Some modern writers have erroneously concluded that the Macedonians spoke Greek based on few Greek inscriptions discovered in Macedonia, but that is by no means a proof that the Macedonian was not a distinct language.
