Go back to 1912 and tell everyone that you're going to have income taxes that consume up to 50% or more of a person's income before they get to save $1 for themselves or buy medical care. Tell them that living frugally won't save them on taxes and that if they move away to try and escape the IRS will claim ownership over their labor for up to 10 years post.

Tell everybody that they are a slave to a government who claims first right to their work.

flat tax still requires filing, doesn't tax adjust exports, still grants government a higher claim on your life than you yourself have, still allows for taxes on inflation gains, still can create taxes on unrealized "phantom income" ... Flat Tax is third on my reform list, Fair Tax is #2, replacing the income tax with nothing is #1.

Nursing home patients are often living off of their or their families savings, which is generally tax deferred in 401ks, IRAs or other vehicles. OR, they receive government benefits which are generally indexed for cost for living.

And again, eliminating the income tax levy at all stages of providing service to those people will reduce the overall cost.

Everyone pays taxes out of their paycheck before buying things. This gives them choices instead of just being robbed.

The government already taxes the incomes of poor people and cancer patients. They are taxed before they ever get their paycheck and then they pay all of the embedded corporate taxes at every stage of production to get their treatment.

That, in addition to government intrusion in the health care industry and markets which effectively doubles the cost on everyone, resulting in double the cost for health insurance as well.
