The first time I watched this i was appalled at what Shishio did, but when I watched it again I kinda understood that Yumi was never happy with the way she served Shishio and that he knew that. I believe that Shishio really did love Yumi. I think he said it best "She understands me better then anyone else and I her". I think Yumi really wanted to die the way she did if it meant her being of some help. It's twisted I know.
