Pele 1970 World Cup Final Goal - After being kicked off the field during the 1962 and 1966 World Cup's, this was Pele's last chance for personal international glory. He scored the opening goal of the final which Brazil went on to win 4-1 to regain the world cup, cementing Pele's status as possibly the greatest ever.

Gerrard 2005 Champions League Final - After nearly moving to Chelsea in the summer of 2004 and a poor Liverpool campaign which seen the club finish outside the Champions League places, this could have seen Gerrard depart Liverpool. However he scored in the final when Liverpool were trailing 3-0 to AC Milan, which sparked a miraculus comeback eventually winning the match on penalties, in which was a epic performance from the skipper.

Ronaldo 2002 World Cup Final - After suffering a convulsive fit before the 1998 final, Ronaldo played awfully in a game which Brazil lost 3-0. This was Ronaldo's chance for retribution and he seized the day scoring both goals in a 2-0 win, in the process earning a summer move to Real Madrid and cementing his place as a leading player of the generation.

Keane Champions League Semi-Final 1999 - With United trailing 3-2 on aggregate away from home in one of Europe's most feared stadiums, they looked set to miss out on the Champions League yet again. Keane clawed a goal back for United and then led his team to victory, in what is regarded by many experts as one of the greatest all round displays in the modern era.

Best 1968 European Cup Final - In a career that one of the greatest natural talents failed to reach full potential, this one the crowning moment. Best scored the goal to put United up 2-1 in extra time on the way to a 4-1 victory. Of Best's performance that night teammate David Sadler said "You could put George in any position in our 1968 team, and he would have been better than the person playing there.".

Beckham 2001 World Cup Qualifier - In a career marked by comebacks and retribution, this was the ultimate turnaround from being the nations most hated footballer in 1998. The goal, scored in the dying seconds of the last qualifier, sent England through to the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Cruyff 1974 World Cup Second Round Match - After Brazil dominated world football for 12 years, and set the benchmark in fluent attacking footnall, the Netherlands had developed their own brand of "total football" with Cruyff the main instigater. The second goal in a 2-0 over Brazil confirmed the Netherland's status as the most exciting team in the world, inspiring thousand of young players to play creative football.

Zidane 2001 Champions League Final - possibly the greatest player of his generation, this goal secured a 2-1 win for Real Madrid that helped Zidane achieve the rare feat of winning the World Cup, Champions League and European Championships. This goal also justified Zidanes £49 million price tag, which was then a world record.

Van Basten 1988 European Championships Final - In a career cut short by injury, the was Van Basten's finest moment, as he scored the second goal in a 2-0 win. from what was a seemingly impossible angle. This was the Netherlands first and only major international trophy.

Maradona 1986 World Cup Quarter Final - in a career plagued by controversy, this was Maradona's finest goal, which has subsequently voted 'Goal of the Century; by FIFA. Maradona had scored the first goal in a controversial goal using his hand, but then his second was a goal of pure beauty. He skipped past the England defenders like they weren't even there, summing up the genious of such a player in one fine move. ☺ENJOY ☻

  • If not for Gerrard's goal to make it 3-1 and restore confidence in Liverpool, AC Milan would have probably gone on to win 4/5-0. Most definitive goal of his career.
