Music for Teacup 2010

"Music for Teacup" rhythmically dissects the poetic moment of a falling and breaking teacup as it sounds out its last second as a complete object.

Recorded Summer of 2010 at Jasper Beach on the coast of Maine.

Melissa Haviland and David Colagiovanni live and make work in Ohio and North Carolina. "Music for Teacup" is the result of their first collaboration.




David Colagiovanni is a video and media artist living and working in North Carolina (USA). He was awarded his Bachelorʼs of studio art from the University of Maine-Orono in 2002 and received his Masters of Fine Art at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 2005. His work has been exhibited Internationally. He is the recipient of the United Arts Council Artistʼs Grant (2007), the Figurative Sculpture Award (2004) from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and the Elizabeth Graves Foundation for the studio arts (2000). His recent exhibitions have included spaces such as the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, AVA Gallery (TN), and Lump Gallery (NC).

Melissa Haviland is an artist printmaker living in Athens, Ohio. She received her MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and BFA from Illinois State University. Currently, she teaches printmaking, drawing, and papermaking at Ohio University. Melissa has been an art educator for six years, also teaching at: the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill in Truro, Massachusetts; University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska; Metropolitan Community College in Elkhorn, Nebraska; and Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. Her Work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
