Have you ever wondered what goes into cutting gems before they become jewelry?
This video will give you an idea of the patience, skill, and delicate touch needed for artisanal gem cutting. In this case Salt Spring Island Rhodonite, Micro-mined by Lake&Co. is being formed into cabochons.

    The stones were in fact heated, it just didn't make the video. The torch is used because the metal dop sticks that were being used there act like a heat-sink and were cooling the dop wax too quickly to otherwise work with.
