Piston FEA

Piston, pin, conrod FEA. I believe this was a 6 bar static pressure (based on 6 bar BMEP), and fixed journal bearing surfaces (static).

I don't remember what the max. stress and deformation of the assembly was.

Ultimately will be tied into computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results through fluid-structure interaction (FSI) in quasi-static simulations.

  • Nice work, looks like NX. We had to do FEA for a section of a gearbox early this year, finding suitable materials and minimising rotating mass. All they really gave us was the required layout, gear ratio and peak torque.

Tedious at first but its fun being able to observe the stress in this way when you finish each model and perfect your designs.
