Just using MS Wordpad to demo the universal writing input feature of Windows 8 on the Surface Pro. This is my first time using it. Keep in mind that it learns your writing and will get faster and more accurate as time goes on. Although, you can see how awful my cursive writing is and it still did a pretty good job of picking it up.

well yea. its sort of a stress test. we know it can recognise good penmanship... but, recognising chickenscratch is the true test of pen input.

LOL, Surface actually understood better then me...
I saw your video about Paint, it seemed to have a big lag... Probably it's just Paint's fault, can you confirm that?

im not sure what type of pen input devices you are used to, but, it seems really responsive to me. it depends on a lot of things as well... e.g. a shaped paintbrush in photoshop is going to be more laggy than a pencil with no flow, fade, pressure, tilt, etc. having said that, i hope they improve the drivers.. the pressure doesnt work in photoshop

its part of the universal keyboard, built imto the os... so yes, any text field... some programs have their own hand recognition though... its faster just to type, so, its not exactly meant to be a killer app

I can one finger type faster then that. I would go crazy if I had to do that to type.

The best thing about windows handwriting recognition is that you can actually teach it to recognise your personal handwriting. e.g. I write 6 starting from the inside and going out. It struggles initially but eventually learns what you mean if you do the training or keep correcting it.
