When it comes to bulletproof material, I think of strong, dense objects like concrete and really thick glass. I've

never thought of liquids. But British scientists have, and they say liquid armor is better than ordinary Kevlar.

They're calling it "bulletproof custard" because once struck, its molecules lock together to create a denser surface.

According to the scientists who've developed it, the liquid armor works by absorbing the force of the bullet strike and

responding to it by becoming much thicker and more sticky.

But the idea behind liquid armor isn't to replace Kevlar but rather to complement it to create a sort of super armor

that's lighter, more flexible, and of course, stronger. In tests, a 10-layer Kevlar and liquid armor vest outperformed

a 31-layer ordinary Kevlar vest. Cutting out layers of Kevlar without losing any of that bullet stopping effectiveness

is a win for everyone.

Researchers at BAE systems in Bristol combined a "shear-thickening" liquid with the existing material used in bullet-

proof vests - called Kevlar - to create the new armour.
The chemical formula of the new liquid is being kept secret but scientists say it works by thickening and becoming

sticky on impact with a bullet.

BAE's business development manager, described the new material as "bullet-proof custard".
He told the BBC: "It's very similar to custard in the sense that the molecules lock together when it's struck."
To test the new armour, scientists used a large gas gun to fire spherical-shaped bullets at more than 300 metres per

second.
They fired one set of bullets at 31 layers of untreated Kevlar and another set at 10 layers of Kevlar combined with the

new "shear-thickening" liquid.
The results showed that the Kevlar and liquid mix was more effective.
"The Kevlar with the liquid works much faster and the impact isn't anything like as deep," Mr Penny said.
Mr Penny claims the new light-weight material could eventually replace the "thick, heavy-layered plates" of Kevlar used

in existing bullet-proof vests for soldiers.
He added that the new armour would reduce soldier fatigue and would be more effective against bullets and shrapnel.

  • @Dorfanable Two Ak-47 rounds to the dargon skin body armour would bruse the wearer's ribs and skin and could course internal bleeding and put the body's nerve system in a state of shock, so Dragonskin stfu.

  • It's like that gel we made at school that the mythbusters tested. If you put your finger gently, it will sink, but the stronger you hit it, the more solid it is.

  • its really not a liquid, its jelly, ballistic jelly, it will stop a bullet but not the kinetic energy from the bullet. (what actually kills u) therefore its useless but cool to have.

  • Id use that wrapping for a condom..

  • Be kinda funny if it was cornstarch and water...

  • @kingklabe yea they had to make a spider farm to make enough spider silk, but i saw a video in youtube says that if the spider silk mixed with the genes of the human skin it would make a bullet proof, imagine the whole world as spiderman 8D

  • @kingklabe That's why they made "spidergoats" to collect silk from their milk check it out. they actually made a bullet proof face mask with it.

  • @DeathGhost809 He's just referring to the fact that spider silk is one of the strongest substances on earth. It's stronger than a piece of steel the same thickness.

It would take a lot of spiders to weave a bullet proof vest though haha.

    =)

  • @3Helium3 what is the spider web?

  • i am eager to know how the lequids can protect me from bullets
