Smart kid.

hey that's... very nice! love it...

A mature and expressive performance - as was the Chopin Eb Nocturne opus 9 no.2. It goes without saying that Tchaikovsky's piano pieces should be played very expressively. Tchaikovsky himself was a rather torured soul and his music expreses this, don't you think?

I have so much problems with the way the audio finally end up in YT. A good amount of the "presence" is lost !

played with sensitivity .... maturing very well as a pianist.

Beautifully played, Charlie!!!
Oh, after I wrote it I thought it might have sounded like I was being critical. I agree his dynamics were very good. I just meant that perhaps one could play even a little stronger at the high points. Anyway, it's always different to hear it online than in person, since the reproduction is not totally accurate. Anyway, this young man plays from the heart, and I get the feeling that there is no way he could ever be unmusical. It comes from his special way of listening and feeling, deep inside.

Thanks! Don't worry, I appreciate criticism too, but my opinion of the video could differ. The overall low recording volume of the video's makes the dynamics less appreciable, but he in fact played out several dynamic levels with clear and suitable dynamic changes, voiced both hands very nicely, kept the melody smooth, moving, and interesting. There were some minor places not smooth or accurate enough but overall I'm very happy with it.

It's quite amazing that a boy Charlie's age can bring such sensitivity to this mature piece, which could easily be monotonous in less talented hands. The key is to keep it moving forward, perhaps with even more dramatic crescendos in the high points. To me, Charlie's soulful expression is his true gift -- it is so unusual to find that depth in such a young musician. But try someting just for fun -- why not play it once with more of a dynamic? I think it could bring out the drama of the piece.
