I never used the puppies perk as I hardly found a use for it since you can always go back to you last save before Dogmeat and when you know a situation is too hairy to deal with for her, you can just have her stay behind...and I always make sure I have an additional follower with me to even out the odds better. IT JUST MAKES FUCKING SENSE!
