Julien Nitzberg (Director)
Julien Nitzberg was raised in the Bronx. After college, Nitzberg moved to the Appalachian Mountains, where he directed The Wild World of Hasil Adkins, One Man Band And Inventor of the Hunch, a documentary about Boone Countys infamous punk progenitor and rockabilly pioneer. This film featured the first footage of Mamie White, who broke up a three-way catfight between female fans of Hasil Adkins during a concert sequence. This auspicious meeting led to Nitzbergs friendship with the White family and his shooting the first video footage of Jesco White in 1989.

@Jason1975ism I have to agree to a point about how wealth was extracted and the native population was left behind, but I'm from Appalachia ( south east Kentucky) and most of us don't act like that. There's no excuse for this type of behavior and they are not representative of everyone, though I won't labor under the delusion that it doesn't encapsulate a large demographic here...

I've got family in VA and WV similar to the Whites, and I agree that mining and logging turning those states into wastelands. Mountain top removal should be illegal.

I know one family like that, here in Finland. I used to think "damn, why are all the kids from that family in our school acting like that?!". Then, I saw their parents. LOL. After that I didn't hate those kids, only felt sorry.
