It could be lead oxide or something like this..
If your water contains some NaCL it could also be a chlorid
like ZnCL or PbCl2 or something like this..
Depends on the alloy of your metal wire of the diode...

The white cloud is the tin coating on the diode being broken down. When I was working on Dr. Stiffler diode electrolysis project that is what we found out. If you run this long enough the entire wire will be consumed also. It was actually a big problem with the SEC diode electrolysis idea. I don't know what Doc eventually did about it.

@Lidmotor thnx allot for yr comment, i left it running like that for about 12 hours on 4 bateries and the lead was totally white, like it had allot of chalk, (kalk in dutch) on it, im still doing some more tests, when i get something new ill be sure to post it.

could be a tin or lead compound from the tinning coat on the wires...
is it distilled water?

@m3sca1, no not a 100% i did cook the water, and catched the steam, but later i added some cooked water only to fil up the glass a bit
