Hate to burst the bubble of whoever posted this, but God Bless America was NOT written by Irving Berlin for Kate Smith. He wrote it during world war 1 and he HATED IT. Put it in a file (after publishing it, of course) and forgot about it. 20 years went by and Kate Smith came to Berlin and asked him if he could write her a patriotic song that she could sing on a radio program. Berlin tried but couldn't think of anything, so he suddenly remembered he had GBA. The rest is history. That's the truth.

@YouKnowImRight39 ..I know America has a lot of problems and for that I am very sad. I am aware of many of the things that you mentioned but I have to think of the positive or I would be very sad at the state that America is in. I would rather live in this country then any other. I do have many fond memories of days gone by. I am 68 years old and I have seen a lot. Kate Smith sang this song back when America needed it and America still needs the blessings of God.
