Road Nail - Smart Road Marking System

The Road Nail project concerns a novel development and field operational testing of a microsystem device used in a large scale distributed system built as a network of autonomous cooperating objects. The application area for deploying result will be the road safety device, with high impact on night accident, especially on rural road.

The object consists of: sensors, wireless, energy harvesting and lighting as well as local intelligence and is used to lighten the edge of road in front of a moving car. Such system is removing the need to have vehicles equipped with additional devices.

Further, Road Nail project increases mobility of people in small communities with providing safer access to town and reduces costs of the road lightening infrastructure down to 1/20 of current expenses.

This system can be used to understand the mobility needs as well as the actual road usage during night and day, without additional cost for gathering road statistics. This will contribute to better safety and security on rural roads and improve road management.
