Theodore Samuel "Ted" Williams (August 30, 1918 – July 5, 2002) R.I.P.
-
the season after Ted returned from Korea a beanball sent all the players on the field. Ted decided the best way to calm the situation was to hold an opposing player in place. Later on that player confided that he was not able to move even an inch because the grip strength was so tremendous.

True American... Semper Fi

When Williams hit that homer in his last at bat, the pitcher's name was Jack Fischer. Jack Fischer hadn't been born when Ted began his career with the Red Sox in 1939.
-
He was born in the Philippines, by the way. Wish he was playing now. He would've creamed a lot of pitches. Had 3 MVP's robbed from him due to his unwillingness to kiss-ass to the media and anybody (he would've had 5). One of my favorite baseball alltimers and my favorite slugger. Heaven is a playground with you in it, Ted.
