Adi Da reminds us that, historically, all the world's spiritual traditions have taught that Spiritual Realization requires the help of a Spiritual Realizer. This is actually built into the laws of how Spiritual Realization works, and can't be changed just because times and cultures change, just because we don't happen to like the way the laws work or what they require of us, etc. For this reason, Adi Da makes the point that, nowadays, our resistence to authority, and addiction to "do it yourself" approaches, represent unfortunate hindrances to our own Spiritual growth: if we simply go with the flow and let these culturally instilled programs dominate our life choices, they will keep us from Realizing our greatest destiny.

  • The good news is that the Spiritual Transmission of the greatest Spiritual Masters can be received anywhere. Adi Da's devotees feel His Blessing-Transmission right where they live, every day -- regardless of where they live.

  • I'm sure this is true. Can you seek the guru within, read the scriptures of the master, and find Enlightenment I say yes, It is possible.

of course if you had the means to seek out the great teachers. It would be better. Not everyone has the money to go traveling all over the world

  • Yes indeed -- via Spiritual Revelation (not just words). I don't know any greater Guru than Adi Da in this respect . . . Take a look at the Adi Da Up Close site for hundreds of stories from Adi Da's devotees on His Grace in their lives.

  • @filmco24 a guru is one who leads you to the truth

    at least that's my understanding

  • As long as you still have a "within", you are going to suffer. Only God-Realization (in which both "within" and "other" are dissolved) will relieve you of suffering.

  • It's true that Adi Da is All-Pervading: inside you and outside you.

But the only "Guru" that is exclusively "within you" is called the ego.

You can make that one your Guru, but so long as you do, it's guaranteed suffering for you. The only Guru who will actually relieve you of the suffering of the ego is the Divine.

  • The Guru is within you

  • I love you Adi Da!

  • u self-realized only on the level of the words! u accepted the intellectual truth in it... but that is not self-realization.

  • Such a statement is a "belief", bqreus! As you say, "Don't believe anything. Know everything." Sure there are bad apples. Protestantism was created in reaction to the corruption in the Catholic Church. But that doesn't mean ALL spiritual authorities are corrupt, or that there are no genuine Spiritual Masters, or that the only realiable "guru" is oneself (NOT!). Great discrimination is needed, based on "knowing" (as you say). See the recommended links to read firsthand accounts about Adi Da.
