Tactical nukes + special forces + national guard + coast guard + heavily armed citizen militias = layered security and safety.

Eliminate many of the laws that hinder citizen militias from access to higher power weapons. The Swiss way of self defense is largely based on the citizen militias being armed as well as the regular forces. It seems to be working so far.

spend it more efficiently. United States alone spends more than the entire world combined in military spending. They got enough nukes to destroy the world 100 times over. How much is enough???

@XCritonX USA center of manuifacturing? 80% of the jobs in USA are in services.Shaping the mentality and education of a country takes decades, is a long process. It doesn't happen just because. By the time americans are educated enough to make an army of the people, USA is going to be already displaced by China as the center of culture, economy, science, etc. The best thing the USA can do now is avoid a quick death by stop causing wars and expanding all over the world.

@giancarlo3000 I think you greatly underestimate Americans and over estimate the Swiss. Don't forget that the rednecks you are referring to are descendants of Swiss, German, and Swedish emigrants. While it is true that America is currently in decline it is still the worlds center of art, culture, science, education, manufacturing, and economy. Americans would improve quickly in many ways if the government stopped treating them like little children.

@dragan221 Fall under Chinese sphere of influence? Do you really think that Japan and S. Korea cannot take care of themselves? And why do you point to Iran and not Pakistan. Pakistan has a nuclear weapon, but why don't we care about them. The USSR had enough nukes to blow up the world several times and they were a real military threat unlike Iran and China. Our real threat is our US Dollar. Stop feeding into propaganda brother. Come on man, think!

I wish I could ask Stossel directly but I doubt he would reply. Here are some questions for both Conservatives and Libertarians.

1. When is the right time to go to war?

2. Who should be the one(s) to decide when to go to war?

3. When is war finished?

4. Who decides when the war is finished?

5.  How much should we spend during peace or war time?

6. Should we have allies?

I think it's important to answer these questions, otherwise we look like the Liberal anti-war hippies from the 70s.
