Arkansas Traveler

Arkansas Traveler is one of those cheesy, nursery rhyme tunes that's instantly recognizable. Like Wildwood Flower it lends itself well to crosspicking. On guitar the tune is most commonly played out of the C position with the capo at the second fret (key of D). However Norman Blake's classic version is in the key of C while David Grier capos it to the key of E.

It's a great tune but most people associate it with Looney Tunes or Laurel and Hardy.

I guess it could be worse, it could be associated with Deliverance.

He compairs it to Loony Tunes easily... Ever watch Bugs Bunny? Ever heard of Elmer Fudd? Well a lot of time when Elmer Fudd comes into scene they will play Arkansas Traveler to try to give you a sense of the fact that they are trying to portray him as a dumb Hick. A little research goes a long way in making it so you don't look stupid in the things you post.. You should try it sometime.
