Part 2 of 2. 28 minutes of screaming total. This video is of my daughter. The audio is what is important. While my daughter watched TV and received her infusion, another child began an IV placement. I started rolling 8 minutes into the IV placement. It took the floor nurse a total of 16 minutes to place the IV. The child had not received numbing cream before the procedure began. The parents held the child, about 3 years, still. After the IV is finally in, the floor nurse realizes that the IV housing has broken. She removes it. Then the specially trained IV tech nurse, who had been there the whole time, was asked to place the IV. It only took the IV nurse 4 minutes to place the IV. But, the poor child was traumatized by the experience and continued crying for several minutes after the IV was finally started. I feel terrible for the child we can hear. I also wonder what kind of emotional damage is done to my child who has to regularly endure listening to these kind of screams.
