This is the opening track of Bob Bennett's 1982 album, "Matters of the Heart." This song sets the tone for the rest of the album and he closes with a song called "Heart of the Matter," which means that song and this one form something like bookends for a collection of songs about faith and family and love and the other things that are most important in life -- as opposed to what the material world holds dear. The album was released for the Christian market, so the production budget was obviously low at the time, but I think the song holds up reasonably well despite the production values.
Bernard! Thanks so much for remembering me and posting this. Yes, our budget, although good-sized for us, was quite modest by "regular music business standards" back in the early '80's. Our budget probably wouldn't have half-covered Steely Dan's catering bill! :-)
